The coal beds are mapped and followed by directional drilling. Natural gas is found in the coal seams. At 4,500 feet the bottom hole pressure is around 2000 lbs./sq. Water that is present is under great pressure and holds the gas in the coal deposit. When you release the water pressure, natural gas will flow from the well.
